SUTTON, Ruth (Stonie)

The Arizona Republic, Phoenix, Arizona Sunday, July 20, 2003 Ruth "Stonie" Sutton entered into rest July 17, 2003. She was born June 8, 1917 to Maurice and Jennie Stonecipher in Fountain County, Indiana. Stonie's early years were in Fountain County schools where she enjoyed 12 years of perfect attendance. An interested teacher helped direct her to a career of nursing. She earned her nursing degree from the Methodist Hospital Nursing School at Indianapolis, Indiana. In 1942 she married Charles I. Sutton, then waited the return of both her husband and brother the rest of the war years. In 1946 she and her beloved husband moved to Arizona to help his recovery from the war. On arriving in Arizona, Stonie joined the staff at the Veteran's Hospital. She dedicated 40 years of her life to operating room nursing, many of which were as the supervisor of the operating room at the Veteran's Hospital. Her skills and proficiency as O.R. nurse were recognized and admired. Stonie loved her profession; she was a long time member and officer of the Arizona Nurses' Association. Stonie is survived by her husband of 61 years, a brother Cecil Stonecipher of Seminole, Florida, her sister Fern of Kokomo, Indiana, 6 nieces, 10 nephews and their spouses, and a host of great nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a second sister Ruby Shideler. She was a warm, loving person with many friends and will be greatly missed by all. A memorial service will be held on Monday, July 21, 2003 at 10:00 a.m. with a 1-hour prior visitation, at Green Acres Chapel of Light, 401 N. Hayden Rd., Scottsdale, AZ 85257.
