Mary Helen Keany passed away Monday, Dec. 19, 2011 at her home in Lake Havasu City at the age of 83. She was born in Glasgow, Scotland, Oct. 17, 1928 to John and Thomasina (Burns) Mulligan.
Mary and her family came to the United States when she was four years old and became a United States citizen. Mary met Thomas Keany and the two were married in 1954. They resided in San Diego, Calif. until 1962 when they relocated to Garden Grove, Calif.
Mary worked at Crescent Trucking Company in Santa Fe Springs, Calif. and retired after 22 years. She then moved to Lake Havasu City in 1993 and worked for Aramark, serving and enjoying the children at Jamaica Elementary School. She was a past member of the Elks, Eagles and the Moose. She enjoyed her time spent with family and friends and taking her chances on the slot machines was one of her happiest pastimes.
Mary is survived by her daughters, Bonnie (Greg) Hughes, Lake Havasu City, and Ina Arent, Rancho Santa Margarita, Calif.; sons, J. Michael Keany, Kingman and J. Patrick (Brenda) Keany, Greensboro, N.C.; brother, John Mulligan, Walla Walla, Wash.; grandchildren, Stephanie (Steve) Anderson, Gregory Hughes Jr., Colton Hughes, Keli Arent, Jay Keany, Robert Keany, Chad Keany, Brandon Vian and Shanna Locke; great-grandchildren, Stevie, Shelbie and Sienna Anderson, Gregory, Kassidy and Ashton Hughes, Alexis Keany and her four-legged companion Teddy. Also surviving are her dear friends Lorraine Jacobs and family, Lake Havasu City and Marla Greer, Anaheim, Calif. She was preceded in death by her parents; children, Maureen Keany and Gary T. Locke; sister, Isabelle Mulligan; son-in-law, Lou Arent and ex-husband, friend and father of her children, Thomas J. Keany.
Visitation will be held Tuesday, Dec. 27, 2011 at Lietz-Fraze Funeral Home from 6 to 8 p.m. Graveside services will be held Tuesday, Jan. 3, 2012 at Holy Sepulcher Cemetery in Orange, Calif.
The family wishes to thank New Hope Hospice, especially Lisa, Alicia, Brennly and Debbie for all their help and understanding. The family would also like to express their gratitude to Kathy, the Chaplain from New Hope Hospice. She is such a compassionate, caring and helpful person, a true gift from God. How we would have managed without her, we don’t know.
