Home Accident Kills Infant Boy
Funeral services for Rick Hamblin Russell, infant son of Mr & Mrs John H. Russell, were held at the Mortensen-Kingsley Mortuary in Phoenix Monday afternoon with Bruce Hunt, branch president of the Wickenburg Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, officiating. Burial was in Memory Lawn Cemetery.
The child, who was one year old, last May, was found dead last Friday afternoon in the bedroom of the family home at 415 Mohave Street. According to Deputy Sheriff Clyde Hall, who investigated the matter, the mother had put the boy to bed for his afternoon nap. When she looked in the room later, she found the child with his head in the drawer of a chest of drawers. It is assumed, he said, that the child got up and, in playing, opened the drawer and looked in, the chest tipped and the drawer closed enough to choke the child. He was rushed to the office of a doctor but was dead upon arrival.
Surviving, in addition to the parents, is one brother, Mike, and the maternal grandmother, Mrs Ike Kusisto. The father is a barber in Mac’s Barber shop.
