LEGAULT, Carol

The Daily Miner, Kingman, AZ - Published on December 20, 2011 - Carol Legault, 73, of Gering, died Friday, Dec. 16, 2011, at Regional West Medical Center in Scottsbluff, Neb. Carol Legault's life was one of a unique, free spirit. Her travels and adventures in various locations across the country would serve well as material for any small theater company. Her restless energies brought her from Massachusetts to Nebraska by way of Arizona, Florida, and California. In Massachusetts she raised four children. In Florida she watched from her backyard as space shuttles launched into the skies. San Francisco was where she enjoyed her first cable car ride. Carol loved dining in restaurants and much to the surprise of her son A.J., she actually liked sushi. An accomplished scratch cook, Carol was well known among friends and family for her cakes, pies, cretons, sun tea, and other traditional dishes. She passed on her love of culinary creation to her eldest daughter, Donna. She worked well over 1,000 volunteer hours for the National Park Service at Fort Matanzas National Monument in Florida and at Scott's Bluff National Monument in Nebraska. Many years of companionship were shared with her Granddog Kaibab, a retired rescue greyhound. They often commiserated with each other over their various arthritic aches and pains. Carol passed from this life early on Friday morning after a short fight with an aggressive form of uterine cancer. Late on Thursday night she had opened her eyes to see her son, A.J., and his partner Jason by the bedside. They held her hands as she said, "I love you," before closing her eyes and entering into the sleep that would deliver into the loving arms of those who had gone before her. Carol leaves four children, Donna Glen and her husband Jim of Manchester, N.H., William Legault of Salem, Mass., Estelle Legault of Manchester, and Albert (A.J.) Legault and his spouse Jason Curtis, of Gering, Neb.; and five grandchildren, James McCoy, Veronica Glen, Justin McCoy, Trevor Naud, and James Glen. She leaves three siblings, Phillip Hussey of Hernando, Fla., Ralph Hussey of St. Petersburg, Fla., and Nancy Nadeau of Salem. She was predeceased by her parents, William and Blanch Hussey, her companion Jim Dineen, Joseph Legault, and her grandson Cory. Carol will be cremated. A family gathering will be held in late spring of 2012 to scatter her ashes at Scott's Bluff National Monument in Gering. Gering Memorial Chapel assisted the family with arrangements.
