LEWIS, John Phillip

The Daily Miner, Kingman, AZ - Published on December 30, 2011 - John Phillip Lewis was born Jan. 17, 1941. He departed Dec. 3, 2011. John was born in Huntington Park, Calif., where he grew up with his brother and his mother Mildred; both preceded him in death. He served in the Army from 1963 to 1965. He was stationed in the Presidio in San Francisco. After being honorably discharged, he worked as an apprentice pressman for newspapers, including The Herald Examiner, The Green Sheet and The Daily News in Los Angeles, where he was promoted to pressroom foreman. He made many friends during the 45 years he worked at the newspapers and remembered those times fondly. He retired in 2004 and moved to Kingman with his wife Susan. After one year, he took a job at Walmart in the deli, where he continued to work until he no longer could. John was a wonderful, strong man. He "never" complained once through his battle with cancer. A very admirable man, he was very kind and would do anything for you. He was loved by many and missed by all, especially his wife. You're in my heart always. The service was held Dec. 8 at Desert Lawn Memorial Gardens in Mohave Valley.
