J. George Whetson, 81, died at Yavapai Community Hospital Sunday.
Mr. Whetson was born in Salem, Oregon on Sept. 26,, 1892.
He retired in the US steel Corporation after 40 years. Upon retiring he traveled for a few years before moving to Prescott in 1961. He was a charter member of the Austintown Kiwanis Club, and a member of the Chamber of Commerce in Youngstown, Pennsylvania, and also many civic groups. He was a member of the Youngstown photography club and served as president of that group.
Mr. Weston was active with the Arizona Camera Club, and also was a president while in Prescott. He won many honors for his photographic achievements. He was active in church groups both in Youngstown and Prescott, also in many educational groups and safety organizations. He conducted classes and many educational institutions, and attended many others. He was a member of the Fine Arts Association, Friends of the Library, the Historical Society, and Westerners Club in Prescott.
He is survived by his widow, Catherine; two sons, Lionel, of Brookville, Pa., and Milford, of Youngstown, Ohio; two daughters, Vivian Seigfried, Verna May Deas, both of Youngstown; one sister, Charlotte McCallum of Youngstown; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held in memory Chapel on Wednesday at 2 p.m. with burial to follow at Mountain View Cemetery.
Visitation will be at Memory Chapel from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Tuesday.
