VFW Commander Chris Hammond
Chris L. Hammond, 74, died Thursday, November 2, 2006, at his home in Dewey, Arizona, from cancer.
Chris was Arizona State Commander of VFW in 1981 and was a long-time active member of VFW Post 720 in Phoenix. Chris served in the US Air Force during the Korean War.
He was married to his wife, Ann, for 54 years. He is also survived by his three daughters, Joan Adams, Debbie Bonifasi and Sharon Stodola. At the time of his death, he had eight grandchildren and eight-great-grandchildren. He also had three living brothers and one sister.
Chris and his family moved to Scottsdale in 1966 from South Bend, Indiana, where he was born, and was a 38 year employee of Sears.
A visitation for family and friends will be 5 to 7 p.m. on Friday, November 3, 2006, at Sunrise Funeral Home in Prescott Valley with commemoration services in honor of Christian on Saturday, November 4, 2006, at 1 p.m. at the VA Chapel in Prescott, Arizona, 500 N. Hwy. 89.
Burial will follow the services at Heritage Memorial Park in Dewey.
Military Honors will be provided by the American Legion Post # 6, Prescott, Arizona.
Donations, in lieu of flowers, can be made in Chris's name to the American Cancer Society.
