HUGHES, Gene Wyatt


The Daily Courier, Prescott, Arizona Tuesday, November 7, 2006 Gene Wyatt Hughes, aged 80, of Prescott, Arizona, died on November 3, 2006, at the Northern Arizona VA Hospice. Born February 20, 1926, in Dayton, Ohio, he graduated from Oakwood High School. Gene enlisted in the Navy at 17 and served in World War II. Gene received a BA from Williams College where he was a member of the Phi Delta Theta fraternity. He earned his BS and MS degrees from Stanford University and an MBA from the University of San Francisco. Most of his business career was spent in industrial and heavy commercial construction and he was listed in the Who's Who in Finance and Industry. Gene was a licensed Professional Engineer in Mechanical Engineering as well as an arbitrator for the American Arbitration Association. Among his volunteer activities, he was a Citizen on Patrol for the Prescott Police Department, a charter member and president of the Oakwood Rotary and was on the board of the Phoenix Symphony Orchestra in Prescott. He was an Elder and a choir member at Trinity Presbyterian Church in Prescott. Gene left music and was learning to play the trombone. He was a charter member of the Hassayampa Golf Club and a former member of the Dayton County Club. Gene was preceded in death by his father, John C. Hughes, and his mother, Catherine W. Hughes. He is survived by his wife, Julia; daughter Meredith; sons, Robert and John; and four grandchildren. A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. on December 2, 2006, at Trinity Presbyterian Church, 63 Oh Park Ave., Prescott, Arizona, with the Rev. Mark R. Tilly officiating.
