Newspaper Unknown Wednesday, February 14, 1894 On the morning of November 18, Matthew Lezalle was found dead at his camp, on Sand Creek, about 2 miles from the camp of T. P. Carson, of Humbug, by Arnold Wallack, a man who camped near him. Lezalle had been sick for several days but was feeling better when Mr. Wallack (the evening before, about 9 p.m. he had left his bed and crawled about 30 yards before death came. He laid face downward on the sand and had one shoe on. The coroner's verdict was death from natural causes. There were no papers on his person. He was living by placer mining and had no other means. Six dollars in gold dust was found on his person. He was a native of France, about 65 years of age.
