The Prescott Courier, Prescott Arizona Monday, May 16, 1938 Prescott’s Own "Shooting Sally" Makes Smiling Exit From 77 Years of Life! Prescott's own "Shooting Sally," the sunny hearted youngster of seventy-seven years old who insisted she was " sweet sixteen, never been kissed and never will grow old," is dead. Victoria Canzada Hedrick, almost a landmark herself of Prescott, died Saturday night just a few minutes after she had smilingly talked to some of her grandchildren; just a few hours after she had returned from a shopping trip down town with her husband, Perry Hedrick. It was a smiling exit to almost 77 years of a smiling life. Born in Abilene, Texas, she came to Phoenix as a girl; saw most of the town layout and was a well known part of Prescott's life for almost a half a century. Of an extraordinarily happy disposition she had hosts of friends here and in this country; she never failed to greet folk she met on the streets with a cheery hail; she lived a friendly life. Eleven years ago she became the Prescott Courier’s official " Shooting Sally" entering as the Courier’s official representative in a bathing beauty contest at Granite Dells, she " stopped the show" by appearing in an outfit, a wildly hilarious outfit, of the beach beauties of the " Gay Nineties." Clad in a green " bloomer bathing suit"; wearing red stockings and high lace shoes and carrying a lace parasol, she put on an act that will long be remembered here with chuckles. It was not only funny but clever. Her penchant for high lace shoes and a determined fondness for a hat she wore for years were well-known here. Mrs. Hedrick was married six times; her last wedding being in 1931 to Perry Hedrick with whom she has made her home at 434 S. Granite St. here. Her former husbands were, Frank Combs, John Shepard, Will Searcy, James Burton, and Herry Hill. She has two brothers, Amos and Alonzo Parrish, of San Diego, and one living child, a daughter, Mrs. Oral D. Peterson, of Prescott. Surviving Mrs. Hedrick are 10 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren: her grandchildren are Madgie Lee Walden; Margie Nell Kniffin; Louie Dell Kniffin; Annie Maureen Walden, all of Texas; J. Melvin Brown and Jettie Lee Eulberg of Brawley, California; Oneta Alvy Burrell, of Phoenix; Carol Preston Brown, of Prescott. Her three great grandchildren are; Alberta Lee Tyler, of Brawley, California, and Jettie Roberta Windsor and Charles Walter Burrell of Phoenix. The body is held at the Hunter Mortuary here and a funeral will be held Tuesday at the Odd Fellows cemetery. The family would appreciate flowers.
