James (Jim) Sauer, 78, died Nov. 2 in Surprise, Ariz. He was born in Sheldon, Iowa, and had six brothers and one sister. Jim moved to Fullerton, Calif., in 1940.
He was inducted into the Army in 1950, and his career included time in Japan and Korea. He finished in the National Guard, retiring after 22 years as Lt. Colonel. Jim was employed for 50 years with Bradford/Willdan Associates serving as a civil engineer and land surveyor.
In 1997, Jim retired in Wickenburg, Ariz., where he loved to golf with his buddies Ray and RD. Fishing was also a favorite hobby. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church and the Elks Lodge.
Jim will be greatly missed by all his friends and loved ones.
He is survived by wife Mary; children Stephanie (Steve), Gary, Keri (Brian); step-children Tony, Mark, and Todd (Cristina); grandchildren include Shannon, Samantha, Evan, Cleyton, Zackery, Taylor, Aubrey and Mia; great-grandchildren Hannah and Hailey; and surviving brothers Richard (Leona) and Howard (Mary).
Interment will be held with military honors at Riverside National Cemetery in California at a later date.
Arrangements are under the direction of Wickenburg Funeral Home and Crematory.
