SMITH, Fred


Fred Smith, 86, of Virden, N.M., passed away Monday, May 21, 2007, at the Good Samaritan Hospital in Phoenix. He was born Feb. 12, 1921, in Tuxedo, Texas, to Clarence Raymond Smith and Mary Emily Williams. He married Angelita Corona on Jan. 25, 1958, in Lordsburg, N.M. Fred was born and raised in Texas. After serving in the U.S. Army during WWII, he worked in the mines in Bisbee and Morenci. He was a builder of fine homes. He loved to ranch and worked for many of the ranches in Greenlee County. He was a true cowboy at heart. He is survived by his wife, Angelita of Virden; 11 children, Joseph Fredrick (Dee) Smith of Nevada, Angie (Ted) Katsules of California, Corine (John) Gonzales of California, Helen (Pepe) Sotomayer of Nevada, Sylvia (Jerome) Romero of Nevada, Mary Smith of Arizona, Bob (Majken) Smith of Nevada, Dave Smith of Arizona, Sarah (Jim) Garett of Arizona, Eric (Sandra) Smith of Arizona and Felicia Smith of New Mexico; a sister, Sarah Ligon of Texas; 27 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren, five great-great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. Graveside services were May 24, 2007, at the Franklin Cemetery. The viewing was at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Duncan. Eastern Arizona Courier 2007/06/04/
