The Arizona Republic, Phoenix, Arizona Wednesday, July 23, 2003 Grace F. Locke, 84, of Phoenix AZ, passed away peacefully on July 21, 2003 in the Orangewood Retirement Community following a lengthy illness. Born in Burlington, Vermont, April 6, 1919, the daughter of John and Frances Cassidy, Grace graduated from Mount St. Mary's Academy in 1937, received a BA degree from Trinity College in 1941 and a Masters in Science from the University of Arizona. Her teaching career began in Littleton, NH where she taught high school for two years before moving to Phoenix, Arizona. Her husband, J. Donald Locke predeceased her in 1997. A gifted teacher and valued friend, she taught English and Social Studies at West High School in Phoenix, retiring from the faculty in 1986. Grace was a member of the Phoenix Retired Teacher's Association. She was a member of St. Gregory's Catholic Church and served with honor and distinction as a Regent, St. Gregory's Chapter, in the Catholic Daughters of the Americas. Grace was also a member of St. Gregory's Women's Society. She and her husband were actively involved in the Vietnamese Resettlement Project in Phoenix. She is survived by her beloved sister, Margaret O'Gorman, of South Burlington, VT, Rev. Russell Locke and his wife of Springfield, MO, several nieces and nephews, as well as special friends Toni Romley, Ruth and Phil Webb and Margaret McCloskey. Visitation on Wednesday, July 23, 2003, 9-10am at Most Holy Trinity Catholic Church, 8620 N 7th Street, Phoenix with Mass at 10 am. Interment will follow at Resthaven Park Cemetery, Glendale, AZ.
