Richard Gene Holliday died at his home in Lake Havasu City, Dec. 26, 2011. Dick was born in Yakima, Wash., April 1, 1929, to Carl and Mildred (Pue) Holliday. He attended local Yakima schools and in 1949, married his high school sweetheart, Marianne Hiatt. Dick and Marianne then moved to Seattle and started their family.
In 1959, they headed up the Alaska Highway and Dick started a new career in Fairbanks. After a few years in the retail grocery business, he founded Holliday Sales Co., specializing in sales of products to the retail, wholesale and military food industry. After a successful startup in Fairbanks, he expanded his company statewide and moved to Anchorage in 1977. A serious car accident forced an early retirement for both Dick and Marianne. They relocated to the lower 48 and spent the next few years traveling in their motor home before settling in Hemet, Calif. In 1992 they moved to Lake Havasu City enjoying desert living and boating with his brother and wife. Dick and Marianne were married 56 years until Marianne’s death in 2005.
Dick was an avid sports fan and coached several Little League teams in his earlier years. He also enjoyed politics and spent many nights later in life dancing the night away with Betty-Boop.
Dick is survived by his children and their spouses, Richard G. Jr. and Candace Holliday, of Lake Havasu City, Leanne and Don Bender, of Hemet, Calif., and Cynthia and John Hale, of Columbia Falls, Mont.; grandchildren, Jeffrey, Nicholas, Kimberly, Reecia, Adam, Brent, Chelsi and Brian; great-grandchildren Ronain, Brannen, Hope, Cole, Daniel, Caydence, Royer and Reese.
