Harold E. "Butch" White Jr., died July 20, 2003 in Flagstaff. He was
born on March 14, 1949, in Denville, NJ, son of Harold E. and Caroline
Matkowski White. He was an honorably discharged E-4 Sgt. in the Air
Force and a decorated Vietnam Veteran. He earned the Vietnam Service
Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Republic of Vietnam
Campaign Medal, the Small Arms Expert Marksman Ribbon, and the Air Force
Commendation Medal-Special Operations Group 392. He married Michelle
Moncavage in 1970. They were later divorced. He lived in New Jersey,
California, Alaska and Arizona; most recently he lived in Flagstaff. He
received his Bachelor of Education at Arizona State University. He
taught special education at Lucky 13 and numerous high schools in
Phoenix. He was a substitute teacher for the Unified School District in
Flagstaff. He also worked eleven years for Union Hills Water Treatment
Plant in Phoenix. He was a life member of the NRA. His hobbies included
fishing, hiking and motorcycles. He was also a gun collector and a
marksman. Butch was a real man who stood by his country, family and
friends. He knew how to use a compass and sharpen steel. He was never
lost, but as he would say, he "might be just a bit bewildered." He is
survived by his life partner, Jeanne Arete; his sons David and Casey
White; his parents, and one sister, Claudia Clark. He was preceded in
death by his grandmother, Amelia Matkowski.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, July 26, 2003, at 1 p.m. at
the Flagstaff Mortuary, 2545 N. 4th St., Flagstaff, AZ.
There will be a visitation from 12:30-1pm.
