Carrol Preston Brown, 86, of Chino Valley, Ariz., died Dec. 26, 2011.
He was born on Groundhog Day, Feb. 2, 1925, in Phoenix, Ariz., the son of late Ora Lee and Judson Brown. He was the youngest of six children.
He attended Prescott Senior High School. He married Mary Dornwell on April 6, 1944, in Phoenix, Ariz.
He was a building contractor and the owner of Carrol Brown Construction Company of Prescott, Ariz. He was a member of the Prescott Foursquare Gospel Church where he served as a Church Council member. He invested in many young men who had moved to Prescott to attend the church and acted as employer, mentor and friend. Many of these young men whom he helped to get their start went on to become ministers.
His family was regarded as Arizona Pioneers. During the Great Depression, the family homesteaded on the Agua Fria River near Black Canyon City. The family is featured in the Pioneer Arizona Living History Museum at New River, Ariz.
He and his wife Mary moved to Delta, Colo., in 1976, where they lived for many years. He returned to Arizona in 1985. He married Dorothy M. Brown of Chino Valley on Nov. 17, 2006. They shared life together until the time of his death.
He is survived by his wife, Dorothy M. Brown of Chino Valley; his daughter, Nancy Terry of Delta, Colo.; grandchildren Deanna Love, Ty Terry, Karen Marchun and Benjamin Brown; and 11 great-grandchildren living around the Delta, Durango, area of Colorado.
Mr. Brown was preceded in death by his brother Charles (J.D.), his sisters, Jettie, Oneta, Luie Dell (L.V.) and Mildred, his son Karey and his wife Mary and grandson Sterling.
Found written on a sheet of paper on his table were his last words. "When the long night has ended and the thunder sounds no more, let me dwell in thy Presence on that bright and peaceful shore."
At Mr. Brown's request no funeral or memorial service will take place. His remains will be returned to Delta, Colo., where they will be interred with those of his family.
