Lois Howland Gilbert Knowles, 83, of Mesa passed away July 24, 2003. 
Lois was born on January 21, 1920 in Chicago, IL; she served as a Nurse 
in the U.S. Navy where she was stationed in San Diego for six years. 
Lois married Richard Van Buren Knowles June 28, 1947. Lois worked as a 
teacher throughout her life, encompassing kindergarten, primary school, 
special education and pre-school special education in Homewood, IL 
before retiring to Arizona in 1983. Her husband Richard; her daughters 
Edith Louise Knowles Burke of Chicago, and Joy Noel Knowles of 
Scottsdale; and her granddaughter Michelle Louis Burke of Chicago 
survive her. Her daughter Gail Nan Knowles precedes her in death. 

Memorial services Sunday, July 27th, 2pm, the Grand Court, 262 E. Brown 
Road in Mesa. 

In Lieu of flowers contributions can be made to Hospice of the Valley, 
1530 E. Flower, Phx Az 85014.
