Today's News-Herald, Lake Havasu City, AZ - Published Saturday, January 7, 2012 - Mary Brooks White of Lake Havasu City, passed away Dec. 30, 2011 after a short illness. Mary was born Feb. 3, 1944 in Oak Park, Ill.; the daughter of the late Alvin and Mildred Brooks of Western Springs, Ill. She is survived by her sister-in-law, Marcia Brooks of N.M.; her aunt, Irene Barton of Wash.; uncle, Damon Wetterauer of Ohio; her step- daughter, Theodora Webb of Ill.; as well as other family and many friends. In addition, she leaves behind her adopted family: Dave and Jenny White; and their children, Jamie and Lauren (Marks); as well as close family friend Lucille (Bucky) Buckner. Mary grew up in the western Chicago suburbs, and after graduating high school, she completed her Bachelor’s degree in Russian and mathematics at Beloit College in Beloit, Wis. She continued her studies at Indiana State University, and received her Master’s degree in Russian in 1968. Following her retirement from teaching, Mary and her husband Ted relocated to Lake Havasu City in 1994. After losing Ted in 2005, Mary met Jim White through their hospice grief support group and they married in May of 2007. Even though their love affair was brief (Jim passed away in March of 2011), they treasured every moment, traveling with family and taking cruises together. Mary continued to stay active in church, at her Red Hat Society group, and at her quilting club, among other activities. Services will be held at 11 a.m. January 13, at Community Presbyterian Church, 3450 Chemehuevi Blvd., Lake Havasu City, AZ 86406. Her family would like to express great appreciation for the care that Mary received while she was at the Polidori House. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Mary’s honor to the church or to Hospice of Havasu Polidori House.
