ARGO, Richard Lee (Dick)


Today's News-Herald, Lake Havasu City, AZ - Published Saturday, January 7, 2012 - Richard Lee “Dick” Argo passed away New Year’s Day at the age of 73. He was born Dec. 17, 1938 in Hawthorne, Calif. to Ivan and Marjorie (Lehigh) Argo. As a young boy, he and his brothers enjoyed going to their father’s auto repair shop, helping with repairs and spending the summers body surfing at the beach. Dick was stricken with Polio at the age of eight and developed the ability to jump fences and climb walls with his crutches. In high school, he participated in boxing and graduated from El Segundo High School in 1957. He enjoyed spending time with his brothers rebuilding cars and occasionally watching them race. In 1959 he started working for McCulloch Corporation in Los Angeles and then married Suzanne “Suzie” Sunde March 19, 1967. In January 1974, Dick and his family relocated to Lake Havasu City with McCulloch. He spent 37 years with the company and retired in 1996 when the company closed. Dick was a member of the Elks Club for 24 years and the Eagles for over 13 years. After moving to Lake Havasu he enjoyed boating and fishing with his children. In later years, he enjoyed camping and ATV riding in Williams and Franconia with his friends and watching his brother-in-law, Bones Balogh, race drag cars in Bakersfield, Calif. You could always find Dick and Suzie on Friday afternoons together with their friends having a cocktail at a local restaurant/lounge and at home on Sundays watching his favorite NASCAR driver, Mark Martin or watching drag racing. Dick leaves behind his wife, Suzie; his children, Toddy (Jeff) Benjamin, and Mike (Pamela) Argo; his brothers, Don and Denny; grandchildren; great-grandchildren; nieces; nephews; aunts and uncles. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Thomas Argo. Services will be held Saturday, Jan. 14, 2012 at 1 p.m. at Lietz-Fraze Chapel. Reception will follow at Mario’s, 350 London Bridge Road. In lieu of flowers, the family requests animal food donations to the Western Arizona Humane Society in Lake Havasu City.
