Thomas, Phoenix, 85016. ~~~~~~~~~ The Arizona Republic, Phoenix, Arizona Tuesday, July 29, 2003 James "Jim" Marvin Mitchell passed away on July 25, 2003, at the age of 62, after a one-year battle with bladder cancer. Jim was born on "the fourth of July" in 1941 in Chicago, Illinois. A Vietnam veteran, he married Kathleen Blumenberg on February 17, 1968. Shortly after their wedding the two moved to St. Louis, where their son, Gregory James Mitchell was born on September 3, 1970. In 1972, the family returned "home" to the Chicago area. Jim realized a ten year dream to move to Arizona in 1988 with his wife and son, and began a handyman business. Jim spent much of the 90s traveling the world with his wife and friends. Jim was an avid reader, and his hobbies included trivia, travel, music, history and hunting. He was a passionate sports fan. A true Chicagoan, Jim was forever loyal to the Chicago Bears. Other favorite teams included the Arizona Diamondbacks, and the Phoenix Suns. Jim is survived by his beloved wife Kathy, his son Greg, daughter-in-law Alicia, and grandchildren Alexis and Dominic. He is also survived by his father Marvin, and his siblings, Nancy, Dave and Ruthann. Memorial service will be held at the Community Church of New Thought on Tuesday, July 29 at 6:30 PM, located at 5013 E. Broadway in Mesa, Arizona. In lieu of flowers, the family requests a donation to the American Cancer Society
