Marjorie Upshaw Akers 1924-2003. Marjorie Akers was born in Indiana in
1924 and moved to Arizona with her parents in the summer of 1943. During
WWII Marjorie worked in one of the Arizona factories supporting the war
effort, and she proudly described herself as an Arizona "Rosie the
Riveter". Marjorie met her husband, Cliff Akers, while Cliff was home on
a furlough, and married when Cliff returned from the war in 1946. During
the years that followed she cared for her family, attended college and
was active in the church. Marjorie is survived by her husband Clifford
Akers, her son Harold Akers (Arlene), her daughter Roxie Covey (David
Johnson), 3 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren, and 4 brothers, Vert,
Bus (Margaurette), Don (Pete), and Ike (Helen) Upshaw.
Funeral services will be a small family gathering at Mountain View
Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to Hospice of the
Valley who did a wonderful job taking care of Marjorie in her final
months (1510 E. Flower St., Phoenix, AZ 85014).
