WALLACE, Jeffrey Scott


Jeff Wallace, a Phoenix resident who turned a lifelong fascination with cars, people, music, food, fun and family into a truly rich and memorable life, died in his home on June 13, 2007 in Phoenix, Arizona He was 53. Mr. Wallace's death came after a courageous ten month struggle to meet head-on and overcome the effects of pancreatic cancer. Expanding from a childhood passion, Jeff showed a natural talent in all things mechanical progressing from customizing bikes to skateboards to mini-bikes & mini-choppers to eventually become a nationally recognized automotive expert with a particular interest in restoring and customizing classic American automobiles. During the 1980's Jeff was a partner in the renowned Chrysler Emporium, located in Portland, Oregon which specialized in full restoration services for classic automobiles and nationwide distribution of their extensive "New Old Stock" parts inventory. Jeff was also a founding member of the Cruisers Car Club in Portland. In 1985 Jeff moved to Phoenix where he continued in restoring 1950's & 1960's classics and was employed Camelback AMC Jeep, BT Far West Office Products and C.N.A. National Warranty Corporation as a Claims Adjuster. Mr. Wallace's musical interests developed from a fan of Rock & Roll, Motown, James Brown and the Blues to a founding member, songwriter and lead singer/harmonica soloist of the Portland based pre-punk/blues/rock experimental cult band, The Spinal Columns a.k.a. "SPICO". Among other songs, Jeff developed and wrote their greatest fan favorite "Man on the Run" featuring Jeff's totally unique lyrics and legendary stage presence. Throughout his life, Jeff's uniquely charming personality and folksy yet quick witted demeanor attracted friends across all walks of society. He was known for his steadfast loyalty to all, particularly his lasting commitment to a large group of childhood friends who have remained closely connected in spite of living across the country. Jeffrey Scott Wallace was born to Alice and Eldon Wallace on Feb. 13, 1954, in Portland, Oregon, and attended Chief Joseph grade school, Benson Technical High School and Portland Community College. After moving to Phoenix he met, fell in love with Shirley Salazar and in 1987 they were married. In addition to his devoted wife, Mr. Wallace is survived by four wonderful children, his sons Jan 17, Ricky 15, Scott 13 and daughter Marie 9, as well as his mother Alice, brother Jay and sister Joan and nieces Leslie Magin, Kathleen and Mary Wallace who reside in the Portland/Vancouver metropolitan area. Even after he was diagnosed with his disease Jeff continued working at C.N.A. National until his health forced early retirement. Mr. Wallace continued to receive regular calls, visits and help around his house from generous co-workers. Jeff enjoyed a rich and rewarding life. His family and many friends were even more richly rewarded by knowing Jeff and being able to enjoy his love and company. In summary: The man had style, flair and knew how to enjoy life. Thanks for the memories Jeff, we will never forget you! Services were held Monday June 18 at St. Catherine of Sienna Church, 6200 S. Central Phoenix. No flowers please.
