Mary Fuentes Owen, 69, died Friday, Jan. 6, 2012, in Belen, N.M. after a lengthy illness. She was born March 12, 1942, in Apache Creek, N.M. to Raymond and Mary Fuentes. She was raised in Luna, N.M. moving to the Orona Cow Springs Ranch in 1958 when she married Greg Orona. They had three sons: Gregory, Sam and Randy. The family moved to Springerville in 1968 where Robert was born.
In 1978, Bill Owen and Mary began their life together living throughout New Mexico working construction jobs. They retired in 1993 to San Antonio, N.M. Due to Mary’s health issues, she lived with her son Gregory and his wife, Patty, in Springerville for awhile and was able to spend a lot of quality time with her family, especially Sam who was the light of her life. Her family will be forever grateful for the close time they had those few years.
Mary enjoyed cooking, fishing, camping, spending time with her family and friends and her dogs, Sadie and Honey.
She is survived by the love of her life, Bill Owen; sons: Gregory (Patty) Orona, Sam Orona, Randy (Pam) Orona and Robert (Kim) Orona, six grandchildren: Jenny, Christopher, Missy, Shane, Kammie and Carson, three great-grandchildren: Keila, Kendrie and Kelci; five step-children: Wes (Debbie) Owen, Corey Owen, Peggy Owen, Shannon (Jody) Owen and Brandy Owen; 12 step-grandchildren and 10 step-great grandchildren. She is also survived by her sisters: Helen (J.W) Peters, Velma Russell, Lillie (Sonny) Snyder, Shirley Snyder and brother Eddie (Josie) Fuentes.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents, Raymond and Mary Fuentes, brothers Raymond, Carl and Joe Fuentes, beloved twin sister Myrtle Laney and stillborn son Jack.
Funeral services for Mary will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 14, at the Luna LDS Church. Interment at Luna Cemetery and Snow Lake.
The family would like to acknowledge everyone for all your thoughts, prayers and friendship for Mary and her family throughout the years. Your kindness will never be forgotten.
