Russell W. Stanton, 91 of Cornville, passed away on January 11, 2012. He was born on August 1, 1920 in Battle Creek, Michigan to Emma Souffle.
Russell attended Battle Creek schools and Western Michigan State receiving his Masters. He joined the Army during WWII.
Russell was a teacher at Kalamazoo Public School and Sedona Christian School. He attended Cottonwood Baptist Church.
Russell was an avid hiker and hiked the Grand Canyon, rim to rim, numerous times. He enjoyed hiking in Alaska and the Southwest Peaks. He loved to bake bread for family and friends. He will be deeply missed and remembered by his family.
Russell was preceded in death by former wife Ruth Stanton.
He is survived by wife of 19 years Mina Stanton of Arizona; sons Charles Stanton of Boca Raton, FL, Liad Bar El of Jerusalem, Israel, Tom Murphy of Park City, UT, Bill Murphy of Cornville, AZ, and Stan Welch (Becky) of Bremerton, WA; daughter Marianne Justus (Rob) of Cottonwood, AZ; sister Shirley McKeene (John) of Hickory Corners, MI; 14 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.
A visitation will be held on Tuesday, January 17 in the Westcott Funeral Home from 5-7 PM.
A Funeral service will be held in the funeral home on Wednesday, January 18 at 10:30 AM. Burial will follow in All Souls Cemetery.
