Jerry F. Long, 86, of Buckeye died from emphysema Aug. 20, 2010, in Buckeye.
Mr. Long was born June 12, 1924, in Oakwood, Mo., to Jerry M. and Mary E. He served in the Marine Corps from 1943 to 1945. He received a purple heart for wounds suffered in Guam. He received the Bronze Star for heroism. He moved to Arizona in 1947. He was the owner of Buckeye Boot and Saddle Shop. He was a member of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows. He served on several committees for the town of Buckeye. He was a reserve deputy sheriff for the Maricopa County Sheriff's Office.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Evelyn; one daughter, Jeri Renee; two sons, Ronald and Randal C.; seven grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Ganley's Buckeye Funeral Home, 104 E. Baseline Road.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at First Southern Baptist Church of Buckeye, 405 N. Third St. in Buckeye. The Rev. Artie Woodcox will officiate.
