WINTER, Dennis Christian


Dennis Christian Winter, 89, of the West Valley, died Aug. 11, 2006, in Peoria. Mr. Winter was born in 1917 to Clara Otthilia Paystrup and Christian Jens Winter, and grew up in Levan, Utah. After graduating from Juab High School, he attended Utah State Agricultural College, and graduated in 1941 with a bachelor's degree in agronomy. On Feb. 4, 1942, Mr. Winter married Euniece Irons of Nephi, Utah. Mr. Winter was inducted into the U.S. Army Air Forces in 1942, and served during World War II. He continued his military service in the reserves, achieving the rank of lieutenant colonel before retiring in 1977. Mr. Winter worked for the Farmer's Home Administration in Utah, retiring after 38 years as the assistant director for the state. Mr. Winter was also a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, serving as a bishop, high councilor, Young Men's president, home teacher, and temple worker at both the Salt Lake and Bountiful temples. Mr. Winter is survived by his wife, Euniece; two daughters, Lucille Coombs of Mesa and Susan Bish of Farmington, N.M.; five sons, Dennis of Jackson, Wyo., Christian of Litchfield Park, Ben of Woodland, Calif., Robert of South Jordan, Utah, and Richard of Sandy Utah; one sister, Virginia Irons of Nephi, Utah; 33 grandchildren; and 42 great-grandchildren. Visitation will be from 9 to 9:30 a.m. Thursday at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 301 W. Wigwam Blvd. in Litchfield Park. A service will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, also at the church. Interment with military honors will be Aug. 19 in Levan, Utah. Posted by The West Valley View
