MONTGOMERY, Roy G.


Roy G. Montgomery, 78, formerly of Buckeye, died July 9, 2006, at the Veteran's Administration Hospital in Cheyenne, Wyo. Mr. Montgomery was born Sept. 4, 1927, in Ketemcy, Texas, to Mary and Jim Montgomery. The family moved in 1932 to Arizona, where he attended Liberty Elementary School and Buckeye Union High School. Mr. Montgomery married June Chambers on March 7, 1951, and the couple resided in the Buckeye area until 1994. He served in the Army from January 1946 to October 1951 in Germany. He was recalled to service from September 1950 to October 1951 and served in Korea. Mr. Montgomery worked as a truck driver for Safeway Inc. for 27 years in Phoenix, and was awarded several safe driving trophies and other awards. He also worked for Associated Grocers for six years and Roy's Chevron Station for eight years. He later was employed with the Department of Public Safety and was an owner and operator for Jackrabbit Towing for five years. He moved to Cheyenne, Wyo., in 1994. Mr. Montgomery was preceded in death by his wife of 42 years, June Chambers Montgomery. He is survived by two daughters, Kathy Hagan of Elsie, Neb., and Darla Herndon of Tolleson; two sons, Terry Montgomery of Phoenix and Mark Montgomery of Peoria; one sister, Ruth Harlan; 10 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and his companion of 12 years, Leona Ostrom. A service was held July 13 at North Christian Church in Wyoming. Interment was at Bethel Veterans Cemetery in Cheyenne. Memorials may be sent to the American Cancer Society, 2929 E.
