Lake Powell Chronicle, Page, Arizona Wilma Jean Redmond, 83, of Fairfield, Calif., died Dec. 4, 2011, at her daughter and son-in-law’s home in Gaylord, Mich. Wilma Jean was the fifth of seven children born to Frank and Matilda (Ulbrich) Hillenbrand on June 2, 1928 in East Palestine, Ohio. After graduating high school, she moved to Washington, D.C., where she worked as a statistical typist for the American Federation of Labor. At a USO dance she met the love of her life, a handsome soldier named John A. Redmond, Jr. from Bay Shore, N.Y. They were married in Washington, D.C. on Sept. 22, 1949 and their adventure began. Their daughter, Marilynn Ann, was born in 1950 while they were stationed at Ft. Bragg, N. C. Their son, John Arthur Redmond, III, was born in 1958 when they were stationed at Ft. Benning, Ga. Their military experience took them to Japan, Germany and Iceland. After retirement from the military, John and Jean returned to Fairfield, Calif. They owned Cypress Landscape for 19 years, until John’s passing in 1999. Wilma Jean leaves two children, Marilynn Griffin and her husband, John Griffin III “JT,” of Gaylord, Mich; and John A. Redmond III, and his wife Felicia of Page. Her six grandchildren, John T. Griffin, IV, and his wife, Molly, of Novato, Calif.; Katherine Wheeler, and her husband Nathan, of Peoria, Ill.; Diana Durden, and her husband, Sesser, of Ft. Worth, Texas; Kimberly Nahler of Kanab, Utah; Johnathan Daniel Redmond and his fiancé, Keely Haney, of Rocklin, Calif.; and Devin Nahler of Kanab, Utah. She has four great-grandsons, Jack and Michael Griffin of Novato, Calif.; Kenny Ace Nahler of Kanab, Utah; and Griffin Dexter Wheeler of Peoria, Ill. She is survived by her brother, Regis Hillenbrand, of East Palestine, Ohio; her sisters, Elinor McCague of Tempe; Joanne (Gerhard) Blaurock of Youngstown, Ohio; and Carol Murray (Bob) of Onalaska, Texas. She leaves many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, John; her parents, Frank and Matilda Hillenbrand; her sisters, Ruth Louise Colan and Evelyn Marie Williams; sister-in-law, Helen “Bobbie” Hillenbrand; and brother-in-laws, O.R. (Richard) Colan, George Williams and John McCague. There will be a Memorial Service honoring Wilma Jean on Jan. 12 at 2 p.m. at the LDS Church located on Navajo Drive in Page.
