Jon Philip Daugherty passed away from natural causes at his home in Page on Dec. 2. He was born Dec. 23, 1946 in Cincinnati, Ohio.
The Daugherty family moved to Phoenix from Aurora, Ind. at the end of Jon’s eighth grade year. He graduated as a star athlete from Phoenix Union’s Central High School and attended Florida State University on a baseball scholarship.
He left FSU to enlist in the United States Marine Corps where he served one tour of duty in Vietnam.
Upon his return, Jon graduated from Arizona State University and began his teaching career in Yuma. While living in Yuma, Jon was an avid golfer.
He went on to complete his master’s degree from Northern Arizona University.
After 25 years in education, Jon retired and moved to Page where he worked as a substitute teacher.
In Page, he enjoyed fishing and camping excursions with his son and his brother, and large family get-togethers in Cleveland. He was a lover of country music, a devoted friend to many and had an uncanny ability to make people laugh. His greatest joy was the birth of his first grandson, Henry.
Jon was preceded in death by his parents, Kenneth and Ida Mae Daugherty. He is survived by his son, Deron (Rebecca) Daugherty and grandson, Henry, of Evanston, Ill., sisters, Jan (Lewis) Katz of Pepper Pike, Ohio, and Kay (Paul) Schillmoller of Windsor, Colo. and brother, Kevin (Bonnie) Daugherty of Page. He is also survived by six nieces and one nephew.
There will be no services. The family will gather for a celebration of Jon’s life at a later date.
