John Richard Atkinson, fondly known as “Johnny A.,” Oct 4, 1944 — Oct 12, 2011.
Atkinson passed away at home on Oct 12 after a long battle with diabetes.
Atkinson grew up in St. Thomas, Ontario, Canada. He came to the United States a young adult to pursue a career on the PGA golf tour followed by settling in Palm Springs as a club pro.
Through personal acquaintances, Atkinson then moved to Vail, Colo. in the ‘70s where he served as President Gerald Ford’s personal friend and golf pro.
Atkinson moved to Page in 2000 where he loved and enjoyed golfing, boating on Lake Powell and bowling.
No matter where Atkinson resided he will always be remembered as a great “entertaining entrepreneur” striving to bring all of his friends together for many good times.

Atkinson, our “host with the most,” along with his smile, love and quick humor will be greatly missed by all of his friends; especially Parky and Annie — Godspeed, Johnny!
A memorial service will be held on Nov. 4 at 925 Gunsight Drive at 3 p.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the American Cancer Association.
