Bernie Q. Tenney, a longtime resident of Page, passed away Aug. 9., 2011. He was 73 years of age.
He is survived by his mother, Walsie Lee Tenney of Casa Grande; his sister, Teddy Borkman Quinn; two brothers, Terry Tenney and Jon Stephens Tenney; two children, Brian Tenney and Carla Sasaki, both of Page; and two step-children, Don LaBounty of Aztec, N.M., and Sue Bowler of Page.
Bernie was born Oct. 16, 1937 in Mesa to Walsie Lee Tenney and Bernie H. Tenney. He served for, and was honorably discharged from, the U.S. Air Force in 1965, after almost 10 years of duty. While in the service, Bernie met and married Caroline Joyce Fox. Together, they moved here in 1973. Once in Page, they both enjoyed hiking, fishing, sailing, diving, bee keeping, river rafting and generally exploring the land. Often, when river rafting, Bernie happily took other passengers who wished to go along. Joyce, as she was known to most locals, passed away December 2010. Bernie and Joyce were married for 47 years.
Many local Page residents remember Bernie as the superintendent of maintenance for the Navajo Generating Station. He also worked locally as a service contractor for many years.
Most recently, Bernie worked as the supervisor of maintenance, production facilities, for Gary Yamamoto Custom Baits. It was largely due to Bernie’s contributions that allowed that bait company to become the second largest soft plastic lure company in the world.
