VOEPEL, Harold C.


Lake Powell Chronicle, Page, Arizona Monday, Jun 20th, 2011 Harold C. Voepel, 78, passed away on May 30, 2011 in St George, Utah. He was born on Oct.17, 1932 in Palmyra, Mo. to Howard C. and Caroline A. Bross-Voepel. He was married to Verla J. Taylor-Voepel on June 1, 1959 in Peru, Ill. Harold is survived by his wife, Verla; his three children, Cynthia Sue (Skip Hanson), Hal Eugene (Marcia Ostrowski) and Lori Lea (Terry Pilon);and his three grandchildren, Chase Benjamin, Chelsea Elizabeth, and Ciara Jade. Harold was raised in Palmyra, Mo. then attended college at the University of Missouri at Columbia where he received his Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering in 1959. Harold took a short break from college to serve overseas in the United States Army from October 1953 to August 1955. Harold worked at United Electric Company in St. Louis, Mo., after which he transferred to the Keokuk Hydropower Plant in Keokuk, Iowa. He then moved his family to Phoenix to work for Salt River Project. In 1972, Harold accepted a job as assistant manager of the Navajo Generating Station in Page, then served as plant manager from 1977 until his retirement in 1990. Harold was a lifetime member of the Missouri Lutheran Church, and attended Shepard of the Desert Lutheran Church in Page since 1972. Harold enjoyed gardening, traveling, fishing, camping and spending time with family. Funeral services were held June 4, 2011 at Shepard of the Desert Lutheran Church, 331 S. Lake Powell Blvd. Internment took place at the Page Cemetery where Harold was buried with full military honors. The funeral was open to the public.
