LEYBA, Fileberto A.

Fileberto A. Leyba, 84, of Avondale died July 8, 2006, in La Junta, Colo. Mr. Leyba was born Feb. 17, 1922, in Trinchera, Colo., and moved in 1971 to Avondale, where he lived for 35 years. He worked as a farm laborer and for the Santa Fe Railroad Co., and later owned a landscaping company. He was a veteran of World War II, having served in Europe. Mr. Leyba is survived by eight daughters, Gloria Leyba of La Junta, Colo., Molly Estrada of California, Shirley Rios, Rose Juarez, and Sara Leyba of Avondale, Bernadette Herrera and Pauline Ybarra of Litchfield Park and Nancy Leyba of Glendale; four sons, Phil and Felix Leyba of Avondale and Ross and Gilbert Leyba of La Junta.; two brothers, Felix and Herman Leyba of La Junta.; 38 grandchildren; and 54 great-grandchildren. A funeral Mass was celebrated July 9 at Our Lady of Guadalupe St. Patrick Catholic Church in La Junta. The Rev. Charles Sena officiated. Peacock-Lansen Funeral Home in Colorado made the arrangements.
