Laura Ferris passed away peacefully on December 28, 2011, with family members at her side. An Arizona native, Laura was born December 21,1926, to Spanish-Basque immigrants, Miguel and Vicencia Echeverria.
Born and raised in Wickenburg, Arizona, Laura was one of eleven children. She married Roscoe Ferris in 1946 and she and her family relocated to Reno, Nevada in 1960 when Ross's job with the BLM transferred him. She was a member of Saint Albert the Great Catholic Church and St Therese Little Flower Catholic Church where she participated in the Altar Society. She was also a member of the Beta Sigma Phi Sorority, serving as the President of Perceptor Eta and an Extension Officer. During her time in the sorority, she created the beautiful yearly scrapbooks and handcrafted dozens of lovely quilts to donate to the Children's Cabinet. Laura loved baking and gardening, but her true devotion was to her family; she spent hours playing games (their favorite was Uno), solving puzzles and creating crafts with her grandchildren.
Laura was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her daughter, Cynthia Ferris, and five siblings: Josephine Pemberton, Mikel, Robert, Domingo and Roy Echeverria, all of Arizona. She is survived by her son, Dr Gary Ferris (JoAllan), daughter, Suzanne Capurro (Bob); four grandsons, Steve Capurro, Christopher (Sarah), Brendan (Kellina) and Michael (Heather) Ferris; three granddaughters, Tawnya Renwick (Todd), Dr Corinne Capurro, Jennifer Marini(Tony); seven great-grandchildren, Kaitlyn and Rachel Renwick, Talia, Gianna and Ella Marini, Andrew and Jacob Ferris; and five siblings: Glady Miller, Yvonne, Julio, Rudy and Donald Echeverria.
We would like to thank the staff at Park Place Assisted Living for their care of Laura for the past few years. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St Vincent's Dining Room.
A viewing will be held Monday January 2, 2012 at St Therese Little Flower Catholic Church at 9am followed by a Rosary at 9:30am and Memorial Mass at 10am. There will be a private family entombment at Our Mother of Sorrows Cemetery on Tuesday January 3, 2012.
