MOREAN, D. Rhodes


D. Rhodes Morean, 82, a longtime resident of Litchfield Park, died July 13, 2006, from complications of lung disease. Mr. Rhodes was born Dec. 11, 1924, in Chicago, but was raised in Montclair, N.J. He was an outstanding athlete in high school, lettering in three sports his sophomore, junior and senior years and serving as captain of two teams his senior year. After graduating from high school in 1942, he attended Brown University for one semester before joining the Army in March 1943. He was a member of Phi Gamma Delta fraternity and the varsity football team as a freshman. After serving in three campaigns in the Pacific Theater - New Guinea, Leyte and Luzon, and upon his discharge, he returned to and graduated from Brown University. He later was a printing and publishing executive. Mr. Morean is survived by his wife of 33 years, Charlotte Wells Morean; three daughters, Donna Huycke of Bend, Ore., Wendy Morean of Lake Oswego, Ore., and Beth Opel of Marysville, Wash.; three sons, Gary Morean of Aberdeen, Wash., Robert Morean of Santa Fe, N.M., and Richard Morean of Greenwood Village, Colo.; three stepchildren, Connie Sari of Kelso, Wash., Marshall Cromer of Alameda, Calif., and Carol Cromer of Waddell; one sister, Betty Belitz of Lake Oswego, Ore.; and 15 grandchildren. Service will be private. Thompson's Valley West Funeral Chapel in Goodyear made the arrangements. Source: West Valley View July 18 2006
