Maria Bernal Fuentes was born March 5, 1934 in Litchfield, Arizona and she passed away February 2, 2006 in Bakersfield, California. She is preceded in death by her parents, Refugio and Marilia Bernal. She is survived by her son, Rudy Fuentes; son and fiancée, Juan Fuentes Jr. and Candy Adams; daughter, Leonor Cabe; daughter and son-in-law, Irma and Rigo Salazar; son, Larry Fuentes and his daughter, Denise; son and fiancée, Frank Fuentes and Nadine Avila; daughter and fiancé, Gina Gonzales and Oscar Manzo; 12 grandchildren; 3 great grandchildren; 2 brothers; 7 sisters as well as numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Mom enjoyed her family and grandchildren. She spent many hours sewing, cooking, drawing, gardening and feeding the birds that would gather by her kitchen window. She loved collecting miniatures and knickknacks. Her kitchen hutch is bursting at the seams with miniatures she has collected throughout the years. She enjoyed listening to music and watching her favorite shows on television. Her favorite movie was "Pennies From Heaven". She was very creative and talented. If you visited mom's house, you were certain to be served a glass of ice tea with some snacks. She loved telling stories of her childhood. Holidays will not be the same without her special German chocolate cake. Most of all Mom was always there for her family no matter the situation. Visitation for Maria will be held at Basham Funeral Care (3312 Niles Street) on Wednesday, February 8, 2006 from 5:00-9:00 p.m. with the Rosary recited at 7:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held at Believer's In Jesus Fellowship (600 Planz Road) on Thursday morning, February 9, 2006 at 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Greenlawn Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Juan Fuentes Jr., Larry Fuentes, Frank Fuentes, Daniel Salazar, Juan Fuentes III, Refugio Bernal Jr. and Johnny Juarez. Honorary pallbearers will be Rudy Fuentes and Jesse Bernal.
