NIEMI, Laurie Taisto

Laurie Taisto Niemi, 88, of Goodyear died June 22, 2006, at West Valley Hospital in Goodyear. Mr. Niemi was born Aug. 11, 1917, in Detroit, and moved to Arizona in March 2002. He was married for 35 years before his wife died Feb. 14, 2002. Mr. Niemi was an 18-year veteran of the Navy, attaining the rank of lieutenant commander. He served in the Pacific Theater during World War II and the Korean War. He later worked as an electrical engineer for Rockwell and the Boeing Co. before his retirement. Lt. Cmdr. Niemi is survived by one daughter, Dorothea Willand; two grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Visitation will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Trinity Lutheran Church, 830 E. Plaza Dr. in Litchfield Park. A service will follow at 11 a.m. Memorials may be sent to the American Cancer Society, 2929 E.
