The Daily Courier, Prescott, Arizona Tuesday, January 17, 2012 Maxine L. Lewis, 100, of Prescott, Ariz., passed away in her sleep on Jan. 10, 2012, at Marley House hospice. She had resided at Las Fuentes Resort in Prescott since 2005. She was born at home in Green Valley, Tazwell County, Ill., on Aug 28, 1911, to Edward and Goldie Giffin. She attended Browns Business College in Springfield, Ill., in 1936, and attained her Private Pilots license in 1945 in the Chicago area. She was an avid golfer while living 50 years in Southern California and an avid bridge player. She was preceded in death by her brother Hubert Giffin of Oshkosh, Wis., and her husband Rupert S. Lewis in January 2005. They were married Jan. 3, 1932, in Pekin, Ill., a 73-year marriage. She is survived by her son Terry Lewis of Prescott, daughter-in-law Patricia Lewis of Prescott; two grandsons, Terry Lewis Jr. of San Diego and Scott Lewis of Post Falls, Idaho; five great-granddaughters; and three great-grandsons. Her body was donated to Biological Resource Center in Phoenix, Ariz., for science and training of upcoming doctors. Information provided by survivors.
