Julia D. Smith, 78, of Avondale died June 23, 2006.

Mrs. Smith was born Aug. 29, 1927, in Pottsville, Pa., to Julia and Joseph Monti.

She is survived by her husband, Richard F. Smith; one daughter, Terri Reed; one son, Joseph Smith; three sisters, Girda Matz, Vera Miller and Mary Kunisky; one brother, Faust Monti; and four grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, with a 7 p.m. rosary recital, at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church, 13720 W. Thomas Road in Avondale. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Thursday, also at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church.

Memorials may be sent to the Lymphoma Research Foundation, 8800 Venice Blvd., Suite 207, Los Angeles, CA 90034, or Hospice of the Valley, 1510 E. Flower St., Phoenix, AZ 85014.

Thompson's Valley West Funeral Chapel made the arrangements.
