Charles James Prohaska was born on Nov. 27, 1933, in Chicago, Ill., to Gladys and Charles Prohaska. Chuck passed away on Jan. 18, 2012, in Prescott, Ariz., at the age of 78. He was well cared for by the VA Hospice in Prescott.
He leaves behind his wife of 55 years, Carolyn Prohaska; daughter Judy Ely (Bret); son Gary Prohaska (Paula); and grandchildren Matthew (Katie), Kristin, Lainey and Kylie. He is preceded in death by his parents and by his son, Scott Prohaska.
He served in the United States Army and was an educator of many. He received a degree from Miami International University in teaching and went on to teach physical education and outdoor education. One of his great passions was coaching youth baseball and football, especially his sons' teams. The lessons he taught were to play hard, but always have fun. He influenced a great many Clearwater, Fla. youth through the late '60s and '70s. His childhood days were spent in Riverside, Ill. He spent 15 years in Clearwater raising his family and in 1979 moved to Prescott. He enjoyed the outdoors, movies, politics and professional sports.
A memorial service will be 2:30 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 21, 2012, at the VA Chapel on the VA Complex, 500 Highway 89, Prescott.
