MIXON, Benjamin (Ben)


The White Mountain Independent, Show Low, Arizona ~ 01/20/2012 Benjamin “Ben” Mixon, 80, of Heber died Jan. 13, 2012, at his home. He was born July 29, 1931, in Phoenix. Following graduation from Phoenix Union High School he enlisted in the Army and served on the Front Line of the Korean Conflict. He met his future wife, Betty, as a pen pal during the war. At the conclusion of the conflict, he went to Ohio to meet her and they married June 4, 1955 in Ohio. They made their home in Phoenix, where he worked as a tool and die maker. In 2005 they moved to Heber. He was an Avocational Archeologist, who was well known throughout the Southwest and was a member of the Arizona Archeological Society. He was very active in the Methodist Church and was passionate about helping others. Ben is survived by his wife, Betty of Heber; son, Mike (Trudy) Mixon of Kingman; daughter, Annette Mixon of San Francisco; and grandson, Levi Mixon of Lakeside. A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 21, at Shepherd on the Pines United Methodist Church, 3015 Highway 277 in Overgaard.
