Hilda Swasey Moore, 83, of Peoria, AZ and formerly of West Danville, VT, died at her daughters' home on Thursday (January 12) following a brief illness. She was born in West Danville, VT on December 16, 1928 the daughter of Charles and Minnie (Bliss) Swasey and had been a resident of Arizona for the past 26 years.
She was proud of the fact that she was a native Vermonter. Hilda had been employed as a secretary by the Mount Washington Hotel, the New Milford, CT Times and the Scovill Tube Company. Her main passion was her family and friends. Her hobbies included, gardening, antiquing, crossword puzzles, reading, music, dancing, traveling, camping and spending time with her family. She loved to bake and was an award winning baker having won many blue ribbons. She won the Apple Pie Blue Ribbon in 2007 at the Newport Apple Pie Craft Fair. Family and friends loved her plain donuts and new maple syrup.
She will be dearly missed by all of her family and longtime friends, both here and in Arizona. Members of her family include two daughters, Cheryl Sargent, Newport, NH; Zandra Fleuryand her husband, Arthur, Newport, NH and AZ; a son, Randall Moore, and his wife, Mallory Sherman, CT; six grandchildren, Beth Rexford, Shane Wiltshire, Joshua Dunn, Morgan Moore, Devin Moore, Everett Moore, two great-grandchildren, Jessica Rexford and Lauryn Rexford and several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her parents, her former husband, Ralph Moore, her longtime companion, Elmer Black, two brothers, Leland Swasey, Vale Swasey and a sister, Lorraine Swasey.
There will be no visiting hours. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Sunday in the Croydon Flat Church with Rev. Donna Leslie, pastor, officiating. A reception will follow the services in the church hall. Interment will be held later in the spring in Danville, VT Center Cemetery.
