SHANKS, Maxine


Parker Pioneer, Parker, AZ - Published on January 25, 2012 - Maxine Shanks - Sept. 15, 1924-Dec. 27, 2011 - Maxine was born Sept. 15, 1924 in Homing, Okla. She is survived by sons, Robert Blades, of Texas; Donald Blades, of New York, Wayne Shanks, of Big River, Calif.; daughter, Jeannie Villegas, of Big River; and brother Gene Hopkins, of New Mexico. Maxine also has 15 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren. When Maxine went to meet her Lord Jesus Christ, Dec. 27, 2011, which sadly ended our span of five generations. Maxine wore numerous hats after she moved to Big River in 1980. She was president of CSD for many terms; also involved with American Legion, VFW, Big River Garden Club and Redhats. She arranged many pancake breakfasts and spaghetti dinners to raise money for various organizations, including but not limited to buying the Jaws of Life for the Big River Fire Department. Maxine will be missed by family and many friends who she met because of her love for Big River. Maxine will go back home to Homing, Okla, to be with her mother and grandmother. Memorial services were held Jan. 16, at the Big River Club House, which she loved and spent many years working tireless for the community of Big River. Services were officiated by the wonderful, kind, loving Chaplin Kathy Kenney.
