Marge Walker died peacefully in her sleep on January 14, 2012 at the Peaks in Flagstaff, Arizona. Born in Detroit, on April 7, 1928 to Karl and Margaret Seebers, she graduated from Michigan State University in 1950 with a Bachelor of Arts in English.
As a child her fondest memories were of summers spent at her Aunt Blanche's cottage on Lake Erie, where family and friends gathered. Early in her youth she discovered bird watching and was a lifelong member of the Audubon Society.
One of her most memorable trips was in 1935 when she and her family embarked on a 6,800 mile car trip from Detroit to Santa Monica and back again, with many adventures along old Route 66. She married World War II veteran, James W. W. Walker and worked as a school librarian in Pollock Pines, California, retiring in 1980 and filling her years with birding, quilting, dollmaking, scrapbooking and family genealogy. She was an artist at heart.
In 1988 they moved to Victor, Montana, finding a log cabin in the Bitterroots on a trout stream. Her cabin porch was a special place where she watched wildlife, fed many birds and entertained her family and friends. Marge and Jim spent winters snowbirding and rockhounding in Arizona. They relocated to Flagstaff in 2006 to be near her daughter, Lisa.
Marge was preceded in death by her husband of 43 years who passed away on June 29, 2009, and her brother, Robert Seebers.
She is survived by her brother, Col. Richard (Darlene) Seebers of The Woodlands, Texas; son Eric (Bridget) Stahl of Sacramento, California; daughters Lisa (Jon) Nelson of Flagstaff, Arizona and Trina (Paul) Craig of Seattle, Washington; 4 grandchildren, Megan Stahl of St. Andrews, Scotland; Jarrett and Zachary Nelson of Flagstaff, Arizona, and McKenzie Craig of Seattle, Washington.
Marge was an eternal optimist and spent her final days surrounded by family in her bungalow, watching her bird garden and elk herd and eating lunch daily with her dear friends at the Peaks.
A private family memorial will be held this summer in Moose Hollow, Montana.
