Carlyle William "Mac" McGinnis
Deeply loved, greatly missed, Mac passed away on Wednesday, Jan. 18, 2012, at the Veterans Hospital in Prescott, Ariz. Mac was born on Feb. 25, 1926, in Dawson, Neb. He joined the Navy right out of high school and served in WWII.
He never talked about the war, but we understand he saved many when his ship was under attack in the waters of Okinawa. As a civilian, he drove a bus for the San Juan School District, worked for Aero-Jet, and retired from the U.S. Postal Service, where he was a valued letter carrier. He and his wife, Marion, moved to Prescott in the early 1970s.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Marion; his two sons Bill and John; his parents, Carlyle and Mary McGinnis; sister Mary; and brother Gene. He is survived by his brother Floyd McGinnis of Tulsa, Okla.; sister Sherry Wilhelm of Citrus Heights, Calif.; his daughter Linda (Tom) Gatti of Lincoln, Calif.; his grandchildren Lucy (Jack) Montgomery, Jim Ford, Melia (Lee) Prange, Bill Porter and John Gwin; six great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; and his dear friend Loverne Cunningham.
Internment was at Prescott National Cemetery.
A memorial service will be 1:30 p.m. Saturday, March 3, 2012, at Las Fuentes Resort Village, 1035 Scott Drive, Prescott, Ariz.
The family would like to thank all who cared for Mac, especially his nurses, Julie and June, and the VA Hospital's ICU unit. We also thank the staff and residents at Las Fuentes who became such dear friends to him.
