Today's News-Herald, Lake Havasu City, AZ - Published Friday, February 3, 2012 - Robert “Bob” James Maher, 74, passed away Jan. 29, 2012 in Prescott, Ariz., at the VA Medical Center while in hospice on “Hero’s Way.” He was born July 29, 1937, in Cincinnati, Ohio, to John and Lois “Dottie” (Potter) Maher. Bob was married to Frances “Arden” Kearney Dec. 22, 1956, until her passing Aug. 27, 1984. Bob served his country in the U.S. Army for 22 years, which included three tours in Vietnam. He retired Sgt. 1st Class (Army Security Agency) in 1978 at Edwards AFB, Calif. He was a three times Bronze Star recipient and proud to serve his country. He began his military retirement in Santa Maria, Calif. He moved to Arizona in 1987 to be near his family and then eventually moved to Lake Havasu City in 1988, where he married his beloved wife, Bobbie Gudmestad-Maher, on June 27, 1992. Bob worked for the Central Arizona Project from 1991-2003 then settled in Paulden, Ariz. Bob was a lifetime member of the VFW post 9401 in Lake Havasu City and served as post commander from 1990-1991. Bob loved his family more than life. He was an avid reader and sports fan. He loved his “ball games,” whether it was basketball or football. His favorite song was “I Did It My Way” by Frank Sinatra and that’s how he lived his life. Bob is survived by his beloved wife, Bobbie Gudmestad-Maher; daughters, Kim Reeder and Karen Dallman; sons, Kevin Maher and Keith Maher; their spouses, stepchildren, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, sisters, brothers, their spouses, and many nieces and nephews. Services will be at the Prescott VA Chapel Feb. 11 at 1 p.m.. Military honors, followed by funeral Mass, officiate Father Gerald Caffrey, CMF and ending with Bob’s requested song.
