Chester Goldberg Died Saturday
Chester Goldberg Sr, 75, died at his Phoenix home Saturday.
He was born to a pioneer Arizona family in the historic Rosson House in Phoenix and was the son of the late Aaron Goldberg, a member of the Arizona Territorial Legislature in 1895. Aaron had introduced the bill moving the state capitol from Prescott to Phoenix. Goldberg's grandfather founded the first general store in Phoenix. In 1939 Chester merged Goldberg Brother's Men's Store with Vic Hanny to form Hanny's clothing stores.
He was state high school tennis champion from 1915 to1918 and had played semi professional baseball with the Phoenix White Sox. He retired from business in 1965 and moved to Prescott two years later.
Survivors include his widow, Marylee; one son, Chet Jr.
Services are scheduled for Tuesday at A.L. Moore and sons Mortuary in Phoenix.

C. K. Goldberg Dies; Co-owner Of Clothes Firm
PRESCOT T- Chester Kohlman Goldberg Sr., 75, co-owner of Hanny's clothing stores in the Phoenix area and a member of a pioneer Arizona family, died Saturday in his home here.
Services will be 1:30 p.m. Tuesday in A.L. Moore & Sons Mortuary, 333 W. Adams Phoenix. Entombment will be in Greenwood Memorial Mausoleum.
Mr. Goldberg, who was born in the now-historical site, Rosson House, Sixth Street and Monroe in Phoenix, was the son of the late Aaron Goldberg, who as a member of the Arizona Territorial Legislature in 1895 introduced the bill to move the territorial capital from Prescott to Phoenix.
Mr. Goldberg's grandfather, Hyman Goldberg, founded Phoenix' first permanent general merchandise store.
The Goldbergs were responsible for introducing the first bottled beer in Phoenix, brought overland from San Francisco; the importation of the first band instruments, and the organization and outfitting of what is believed to have been Phoenix' first baseball team, the Phoenix Browns, in 1898.
His grandfather founded Goldberg's store in Yuma in 1864 and 10 years later with his sons founded the Goldberg Brothers' Men's Store in Phoenix.
Chester Goldberg joined his father and Uncle in the clothing business in 1921, after graduation from Phoenix Union High school and Lamson Business college, and two years with the Los Angeles clothiers, Harris and Frank. Ten years later, when his father died, he assumed control of the business.
In 1939, Mr. Goldberg and Vic Hanny consolidated their business to form Hanny's.
Mr. Goldberg was the high school state tennis champion from 1915 to 1918 and the southwestern doubles champion in 1916-17. He also played semi-professional baseball with the old Phoenix White Sox.
He was a 40 year member of the Kiwanis, a life member of the Arizona Historical Society and the Phoenix Country Club, was active in the Phoenix Chamber of Commerce, the Phoenix Convention Center Committee, the Better Business Bureau and was a past member of the Arizona club.
He retired in 1965 and moved to Prescott two years later.
Survivors include his wife, Marylee; a son Chester Jr., who was majority leader of the State Senate in 1967-68, and three grandchildren.
