Forest A. Mathes, 81, of Scottsdale, AZ passed away July 26, 2003. He
was born November 9, 1921 in Gibson Co, IN, 3 miles from Ft. Branch.
Forest was one of three children to Alva and - Thelma (Johnson) Mathes.
He married Mary L. Mathes after the death of his first wife. He entered
the United States Air Force on March 27, 1959. Mary immediately adopted
his two children, Betty and Forest. Mary's daughter, Linda, made an
addition to their family. Forest remained in the USAF in recruiting duty
in Ft. Worth, TX while Mary finished college and started her teaching
career. After 23 years in the USAF, Forest retired and the entire family
moved to Scottsdale, AZ. Mary taught school and Forest went into real
estate sales. In 1969 he opened his new office under the name "Forest
Mathes Realty Inc." He was the first president of Century 21 in Maricopa
County. He resigned from Century 21 later. Forest is survived by his
wife, Mary of Scottsdale, AZ; three children, Linda (Michael) Dorn,
Betty Mathes, Forest (Mary Lou) Mathes; two grandchildren, David (Ellen)
Grounds, Julie Grounds; and three great-grandchildren, Adam, Nicholas
and Alexandra Grounds.
Visitation will be held Thursday, July 31, 2003 at Messinger Pinnacle
Peak Mortuary, 8555 E. Pinnacle Peak Rd., Scottsdale, AZ from 5:00-7:00
PM.
Funeral Services will be held Friday, August 1, 2003 at 10:00 AM at
North Scottsdale United Methodist Church, 11735 N. Scottsdale, AZ, with
burial to follow at Valley of the Sun Memorial Park, Chandler, AZ.
Family request flowers or donations can be made to the North Scottsdale
United Methodist Church.
