KUPFER, Richard Arno


Today's News-Herald, Lake Havasu City, AZ - Published Thursday, February 9, 2012 - Richard Arno Kupfer passed away Saturday, Feb. 4, 2012 in Lake Havasu City at the age of 86. Dick, as he was known by to his family and many friends, was born Jan. 18, 1926 in Jersey City, N.J. to Felix and Esther (Tully) Kupfer. Following high school, Dick enlisted in The United States Army, proudly serving his country from 1944 to 1946 and was honorably discharged holding the rank of Staff Sergeant. He then attended the University of Miami, Fla. attaining his Bachelors and Master’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering. Dick worked for several companies, including GM for Hudson Pulp & Paper in Florida and then for G.E. in Indiana. Following that he was a Vice President for Harnischfeger in Milwaukee, Wis. and President for Seneca Falls Machine Corporation in New York. He then owned and operated three Copper Penny Restaurants. In 1975, Dick and his wife moved to Lake Havasu City where he worked as a Realtor and General Contractor. He managed construction of A Block Plant in Needles, Calif., an addition to the Las Vegas Convention Center, the APM Building and the original Campbell Storage in Lake Havasu City. Dick enjoyed traveling, boating and hiking. He spent many years having his morning coffee with friends Chuck Langerveld, Harvey Jackson and Lee Abbott. Dick is survived by his beloved wife of 61 years, Georgeine; sons, Michael Kupfer (JoAnne) of Lake Havasu City; James Kupfer (Cynthia) of Franklin, Wis.; and Robert Kupfer (Yvette) of Flagstaff, Ariz.; sister, Irma Lloyd of Albuquerque, N.M.; grandchildren, Kari Thompson (Karl); Kimberly Gregory (Jake), Shane Kupfer, Yale Kupfer, Bailey Kupfer and Zoe Kupfer; and great-grandchildren, Taylor, Tyler, Trevor, Logan and MaKenna. He was preceded in death by his parents, Felix and Esther Kupfer and his sister, MaeBeth Wyckoff. Thoughts and condolences may be submitted to the family at www.lietz-frazefuneralhome.com.
