Eastern Arizona Courier, Safford, Arizona Sunday, February 8, 2009 Charlotte Dean Charlotte Marie Dean, 73, of Safford passed away Feb. 2, 2009, in Tucson. Charlotte was born Oct. 13, 1935, in Clarkdale to Willis H. and Dorothy Owenby Edwards. She attended schools in Clarkdale, Morenci, Sanders, Oak Creek, Williamson Valley and Prescott. Her father worked at mining and ranching around Arizona before joining the Prescott Police Department in 1945. In 1952, she met and married Emilio Ferra of Prescott. He was a heavy equipment operator who worked road construction, and the family moved all over northern Arizona while Emilio was building highways. Charlotte made many friends everywhere she lived. In 1975, Charlotte moved back to Prescott to stay with her mom and worked at the Cricket Yarn Shop. She loved to knit, crochet and needlepoint and made many beautiful things. She married Richard Dean in 1977. Charlotte and her mother moved to Safford in 1984 to be near her daughter and family. She worked for a while at H&R Men's Wear Downtown and later became a volunteer at the Safford Family History Center. There she shared her love of history and genealogical research. She was always happy to share her knowledge and experience to help newcomers. When the center became without a librarian, she enthusiastically volunteered for the position and began to organize and catalog the collection. In 2000, she compiled and published "Arizona Territory, Yavapai County Deed Records, 1864-1870." This was a work of love for her, and she was pleased to be able to contribute to the genealogical community. She is survived by her children, Jennifer (Brent) Peck of Safford and John B. (Wanda) Ferra of Orangevale, Calif; her grandchildren, Bill Peck of Safford, Wendy Ferra and Sam Ferra of Orangevale, Calif.
